GEORGE SUGARMAN: BASS

For generations, the Beatles have had a strong influence on young musicians. This was the case when George and Steve started their first band together. The Cavaliers played gigs around Southern California, such as the opening of Topanga Plaza. They played in the Battle of The Bands at Cal State Northridge and took Second Place. Later they founded The London Fog. George later formed Captain Sugarman and the Space Cadets. On his musical journey he’s played with members of Queen and Chicago.

Steve called George one day and said I’m putting a band together and can you play bass? George had been a guitar player since he was 14 but had just recently switched to playing bass. So there they were. It was the perfect combination. It was like when John and Paul met! From that point on George was the bass player for the Steve Bardwil Band.

Says George: “Paul McCartney is one of my favorite bass players. I also like Pino Palladino, Leland Sklar and Larry Graham. Larry started the Funk Craze with Jackson Five – he’s one of my favorites. I jammed with Steve Vai, and Danny Seraphine, formally of Chicago. Those were career highlights.”

George has passed his interest in guitar playing on to his son, who has gone on to tour, record and co-write songs with Childish Gambino, AKA Donald Glover.George loves to rock and has a wicked sense of humor. He always keeps the band laughing.
